A lot of things can make you itchy–in fact, there are hundreds of different types of itch. And for the most part we still don’t really understand the what causes the itch or how to stop it! People who train in my lab have the opportunity to design and test experiments aimed at understanding how itch works. Part of training to be a good scientist involves being able to read the scientific literature and communicate effectively to the public about science. That’s why I encourage everyone who trains in my lab to pick a type of itch that they find interesting and post a little update that describes the latest research. Here’s what they say:
